Quick Tip Tuesday: Umm, How Old Is It?

Hey, hey you… You know that container of left overs in the back of your fridge? How long has it been there? 2 days, 2 weeks? Who knows! Don’t worry it happens to all of us.

We do a lot of cooking and there are usually left overs that get put to work as lunches, snacks and sometimes dinner for another night. But I can’t seem to keep track of what we had yesterday let alone 4 or 5 days ago. Since we don’t have pigs, yet!, a lot of that food goes to waste. {well some of it ends up in the compost but only if its all veggies/fruit.}

Simple solution; date the container with a dry erase marker!

QTT marker

I’ve seen people use tape, but what a hassle and one of Scott’s pet peeves is the sticky residue left by tape and labels. On the other hand the marker comes off easily when I hand-wash the dishes. {I’m not sure about in the dishwasher since we haven’t had one in several years}

Are you wondering how long you can store the food in the refrigerator? Here is a handy chart, from the FDA, for safety guidelines of cold food storage.
